Why, in a country of 1.4 billion people — with brilliant doctors, dedicated teachers, and parents who would do anything for their children — do we still lose so many?
The Problem

India sees approximately 615,030 under-five deaths per year (Source: UNICEF) to causes that are entirely preventable. Millions more fall silently through the gaps — missing vaccines by days, growing up without access to mental health support, attending schools that lack even the most basic health infrastructure.
The Gap
A shortage of connection
No single platform had ever been built to hold a child's health journey together — from the moment of conception through adolescence — with full transparency to donors and families alike. WOMBTO18 Foundation was created to change that.
The Spark
One Text at a Time
It began as a pilot in Pune under the initiative OTAAT (One Text at a Time) — a deceptively simple idea: send timely vaccine reminders to expecting mothers via SMS, WhatsApp and Email. The results were immediate and humbling. Lives changed by a single, well-timed message. That proof of concept became a movement, and that movement became a Foundation.
Today
32 services united
WOMBTO18 Foundation operates as one of India's few integrated child health non-profit platforms — uniting 32 services across pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Delivered through schools, hospitals, and communities. Serving 25 schools today. Scaling to 300.

The Foundation and the Platform were not built separately. They were built as two halves of the same answer.
India has 450 million children under 18. Most of them will pass through a school. Very few will have a health record that travels with them, a system that watches for what might go wrong, or an institution that treats their wellbeing as seriously as their academics.
WOMBTO18 was built to change all three of those facts simultaneously, at scale, and for good.
We don't just want to treat children when they fall sick. We want to build the conditions in which they never become sick in the first place.

"Equity in child health is not a charity goal. It is a systems problem - and systems problems require institutional answers, not one-time interventions."
Public health has taught us one lesson above all others: the interventions that save the most lives are rarely the most visible ones. They are the quiet, structural ones - the vaccine that arrives on time, the screening that catches something early, the health worker who is present and trained and trusted.
The WOMBTO18 Foundation was built on that lesson. We do not run health camps. We do not conduct drives. We build the permanent infrastructure of care inside schools - the institutions that hold a child's life together for thirteen of their most formative years.
In India today, a child born into a low-income household is not simply disadvantaged by poverty. They are disadvantaged by the absence of systems: no school nurse, no longitudinal health record, no structured process for detecting developmental concerns before they become crises, no connection between the school that sees the child every day and the healthcare provider who sees them once a year.
The Foundation addresses this not by filling gaps one at a time, but by establishing the full continuum.
From maternal health awareness before birth, through immunisation, nutrition, early childhood development, mental wellness, and specialist referral pathways - we build the structure, train the people, and hold the accountability. What remains behind us in each school is not a programme. It is a functioning system.
We are grateful to every school that has partnered with us, every donor who has understood that systemic change is slower and more durable than visible impact, and every family that has placed their trust in what we are building. We are not doing this for them. We are doing it with them.
The years from womb to 18 are not a statistic. They are the entirety of a childhood. They deserve more than good intentions. They deserve a system built to protect them.
